Big Spring Oilfield — Original Wall Art by Matt Pierce

Born from an original photograph taken by Matt Pierce in the oilfields near Big Spring, Texas, this piece began with a familiar West Texas silhouette: a pumping jack working beneath a vast evening sky. Pierce later transformed the photograph into this richly stylized poster, carrying the image beyond documentary photography while keeping its Texas roots firmly intact.

The pumping jack, open horizon, power lines, desert brush, and fading light speak to the landscape that shaped the work. But the color, movement, celestial imagery, and psychedelic folk-art character push the piece toward something larger.

It is ultimately about home without being confined by home.

The poster combines Pierce's connection to Texas, regional history, working landscapes, and ordinary American life with a broader curiosity about the strange, complicated world beyond the horizon. Texas remains unmistakably at the center of the image—not as mythology or nostalgia, but as a point of departure from which to look outward.
