This poster began with an original Matt Pierce photograph of a small rural church in his hometown of Wilson County, Texas—the kind of place you can drive past a hundred times without thinking much about it, until one day you realize places like this are disappearing.

The photograph was reworked by Pierce into a weathered, roots-inspired piece of Texas folk art, blending old rural poster design with a subtle psychedelic Americana influence. The worn edges, deep Texas sky, fading landscape, and slightly wild visual character give the piece the feeling of something caught between memory and whatever comes next.

Texas is changing. Small towns disappear. Old buildings come down. Fields become subdivisions. Familiar roads become something else. Traditions survive, mutate, or vanish altogether. And somewhere in the middle of all that change are people trying to figure out what parts of the old place are actually worth carrying forward.
